Our lovely Nick died peacefully at home on 23rd March 2020. He was with his wife, his three daughters and his two dogs.

We weren’t ready to lose him, and we will miss him immensely.

Nick was warm, funny, generous and deeply loved. He had a way of making people feel at ease, and of making ordinary moments feel more memorable. He cared fiercely about his family and took huge pride in the life we had built together.

He loved good food, long walks, music, conversation and being surrounded by the people - and animals - he loved most. He was happiest at home, with everyone nearby, usually with a dog not far from his feet.

There are so many things we will miss: his humour, his stories, his kindness, his familiar routines, and simply the feeling of him being there.

We feel incredibly lucky to have had him in our lives. He will always be part of our family, and he will be remembered with enormous love.

After the funeral, we’ll be gathering at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park — one of Nick’s favourite places — to share food, drinks and stories. Everyone is very welcome to join us. Parking is available outside Pembroke Lodge.

The Trussell Trust was a charity that meant a great deal to Nick. He cared deeply about people being treated with dignity and kindness, particularly when life was difficult. His family felt that supporting The Trussell Trust would be a fitting way to remember him, helping people facing hardship and hunger across the UK. Any donation made in Nick’s memory, however small, would be very gratefully received and would support a cause he truly cared about.

    Nick absolutely loved this old VW. It was temperamental, noisy and never entirely reliable, which somehow made him love it even more. We had some brilliant adventures in it — weekends away, long drives with no real plan, cups of tea in ridiculous places and plenty of time spent wondering whether it was actually going to start again. It suited him perfectly: full of character, slightly unconventional and always ready for an adventure. I can’t see a camper like this now without thinking of him and smiling. Sarah & Jack x

    Nick was never happier than when he was in the air. We spent so many days together waiting for the wind to come right, talking nonsense on the hillside, and then suddenly launching off into all that space. This photo feels very Nick to me — completely at home up there in the Peaks, with the countryside opening out beneath him. He was a brilliant flying companion: calm, funny, generous with his time and always ready for one more flight if the conditions allowed. I’ll miss those days enormously, and I’ll think of him every time I’m standing on a launch waiting for the wind.

    Nick was one of those people who made you feel immediately at ease. He was funny, generous and always interested in what was going on in your life. I’ll always remember the long Sunday lunches, the terrible jokes and the way he somehow managed to make everyone feel welcome. He adored his family, his dogs and Richmond Park, and it’s hard to imagine any of those things without thinking of him. He will be very much missed.
